PARAMI MIGRANT LEARNING CENTRE

Project name          Parami Migrant Learning Centre

Site location            Mae Sot, Tak, Thailand

Project area            80 rai

Thailand has long been a regional hub for workers from neighboring countries. Over the past three decades, as migrant populations grew in Thailand, so did the numbers of migrant children accompanying their parents and those born in the country. These migrants play a key role in economic development of Thailand but remain unable to reach basic service such as legal protection, health care and especially education for their children.

Amidst various problems of education among migrant children, Mae sot in Tak province is a major hub for migrants from Myanmar. Many learning centers that are open for them by NGOs are at risk of being close down due to lack of funding and personnel. Therefore, this project’s aim is to solve the problems by providing education and vocational training center in order to give a better opportunity for their future.

The design concept is based on the Montessori teaching method which include the curriculum that is appropriate for the context of the child. By building the relationship between students through the development of Head, Hand and Heart in all three aspects, the design are intended to reflect these ideas to solve the problem of migrant children both physically and psychologically.
