              In the 17th Buddhist Century, Chiang Sean was built as a fortified city of Lanna kingdom. Chiang Saen located on the right bank of The Mekong River, a location considered safer at time from possible interference and served as center between land and water trades of Lanna Kingdom.

              Chiang Saen was the big town, outstanding shape of the town appears rectangular in shape, although it does not fit the geometry exactly. The boundary of the town is defined by three single-layer walls on the north, south, and west. While there is no remaining evidence of the old wall on the east-side, It’s possible that the Mekong River, running along the edge of the town as a water fortification.

              At the present time, Chiang Saen is a living town, one of important historic town that full of ahistoric sites (67 inner city temples, 3-side city walls, 5 city gates and 7 Fortresses) Chiangsaen has developed, since its reoccupation, into a contemporary provincial trading town along the borders with Lao PDR and China. But development doesn’t consider about impact of value of the historic town, cause of disregard to historic sites in town.

              The Objective of this project is to preserve the value of historic town, and encourage cohabitation between culture, social and nature.
